The Importance of Education Essay - 782 Words
The Importance of Education Education has always been a crucial part of society for the past centuries. Some believe that our education is a privilege. Some believe that our education is a right. Some believe that our education is an obligation. The only obligation we might have towards education is to treat it as a privilege as well as a right, but certainly not an obligation to have an education. Education has been the basis for the success we see in our parents, our teachers, and more importantly, ourselves. Over time, people have considered and concluded that education is a privilege. Education is a privilege because not many people can afford an education, and we should be grateful that we have this opportunity thatâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This is true because you cannot be denied an education based on your nationality, skin color, hair color, or any physical features, even being handicapped. It is the right of the individual to seek an education, as long as the individual is fully capable financially and mentally. Let say ?Melissa,? a fictional fourteen-year-old African-American girl, wants to attend Hinsdale Central. A fairly good school, if I do say so myself, for a student to attend preceding college, as I have. Let?s say Hinsdale Central refuses to let Melissa attend their school for various reasons, such as her skin color. It?s Melissa?s constitutional right to contest this decision by the fact that the school denied her admittance based on her skin color, which is di scrimination. However, the school does not have to admit Melissa, even though she is completely qualified. The individual does not have the right to an education, but rather has the right to seek and education. The individual can only have a right to an education if the school offering the education refuses them based on physical features. What about obligations, is an education one of them? Education can be an obligation in a personal way, but education is certainly not an obligation to receive in the general aspect. If a person feels obligated about their education, they are most likely not going to be motivated. Motivation comes from the parents, the teachers, and theShow MoreRelatedThe Importance Of Education - Importance Of Education864 Words à |à 4 PagesImportance of education When I was younger, I firmly believed that my education didn t matter. Moral Perspectives On Physician Assisted Suicide - 2738 Words
Moral Perspectives on Physician-Assisted Suicide Maggie Conway Memorial University of Newfoundland Moral Perspectives on Physician-Assisted Suicide When your conscience says law is immoral, don t follow it - Jack Kevorkian Introduction Physician-assisted suicide, also known as voluntary active euthanasia, is easily one of the most prominent and controversial issues in media circulation today. Definitively, physician assisted suicide is as a physicianââ¬â¢s knowingly providing the means to commit suicide to a competent patient who voluntarily makes this request and uses those means independently to take his or her own life (Fins Bacchetta, 1995). Up until very recently, physician-assisted suicide has been illegalâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The detailed regulations that accompany this ruling have yet to be written, leaving many healthcare professionals, patient groups and citizens to worry, fearful at the potential misuse of this new law. The most well-known case of physician-assisted suicide involved Jack Kevorkian, a retired pathologist who assisted nearly 100 suicides between 1990 and 1998. He ultimately was convicted of murder in 1999. The ethics of physician assisted suicide has been one of the most prevalent debates regarding this issue. Major concerns are maintenance of dignity and preservation of the autonomy of the individual. Contemporary ethical theories have been dissected and interpreted to find reasons to both support and oppose physician-assisted suicide. For example, a deontologist, concerned solely with the intrinsic right or wrong-making characteristic of an action, regardless of consequence, would most likely deem this or any form of euthanasia completely unacceptable (Gula 1990). The fundamental criterion of deontology is conformity to moral duties. A practitioner of this ideology might argue that as moral agents, we have an absolute duty not to commit murder, and physician-assisted suicide, regardless of context and circumstance, is ultimately murder. Just as deontologists are concerned with the ââ¬Å"Rightâ⬠, utilitarian theorists are more concerned the ââ¬Å"Goodâ⬠. The University Of California Irvine s College Drop Out...
A little over a year ago I contributed to the University of California Irvine s college drop-out statistic for freshmen engineering majors. After walking out of yet another challenging lecture on something about angular momentum; I dropped off my withdrawal form at the Student Center and embarked on my glorious adventure to pursue a career in visual development. By the grace of my parents I was allowed to return home and spent my days honing my craft and becoming the modern Picasso I was destined to be. And then they asked me to pay rent. Principle 1: People Face Trade-offs My introduction is actually not reality. In truth, this was a rather trying time of my life. I spent my first quarter of college scrambling-and failing-to understand the basic principles of engineering and spent the remaining two on academic probation. I was in college because it s what everyone did. Because my parents wanted me to. But it wasnââ¬â¢t what I wanted for myself. That summer I had an honest talk with my sister and she mentioned how it might be best for me to consider alternative paths. The arts have always been a major part of my life and I was always talking about how neat it would be to play a role in the creation of worlds found in Disney and Pixar movies. So I dropped out. For four months I gave it my all. Every day I dove into my art with a specific goal aimed at improvement and diversifying my portfolio. I got in contact with professionals in the industry and

Personal Statement Application For Medical Residency free essay sample
From a very young age, I dreamed of becoming a doctor. As children, we all dream of our futures and, for some of us, the dreams of childhood directly and clearly form the path we will take into the world. As children, adolescents and later, women, our dreams awaken us to possibility. By imagining something beyond the reality of ââ¬Å"nowâ⬠ââ¬âwhether it is the now of girlhood or of womanhoodââ¬âwe give ourselves permission to grow and change, and to take on new aspects of self. We take the first step toward believing in ourselves, and what we dream is less important than the act of dreaming itself. Understanding what we can learn from others is the first step toward making our dreams come true. While the solitary dreamer has the burden of inventing herself, those of us with strong role modelsââ¬âwhether they are parents, teachers, or bossesââ¬âneed to learn a different lesson entirely, taking from our mentors what is useful and productive for us, and making it our own, and letting go of what we donââ¬â¢t need. We will write a custom essay sample on Personal Statement Application For Medical Residency or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Indeed, giving voice to our selves takes time and work. There are no shortcuts. My dream to become a doctor was reinforced when my father became sick with a terrible epigastric pain. The doctor said that he needed to be operated on because of a perforated ulcer.à That saved his life and that also convinced me all the more to be a doctor, specializing in Internal Medicine. Everything in the medical field interests me. In my third year rotation, I was able to exercise my knowledge to the best in order to understand, manage and treat diseases. Ever since graduation, I have been working with adult patients, gaining in experience and knowledge in everything I do. I worked in different settings from the medical ward to outpatient care, from admission to discharge and caring for the elderly. I was also given a chance to work beyond the boundaries of my country, allowing me to know different health systems and different orientations on patient care. I even learned a new language. All these work and dealing with stressful situations helped me establish easy rapport with patients, creating strong patient-physician relationship. The word ââ¬Å"inspireâ⬠means to breathe air or life into, and that, of course is precisely what I watch doctors do. But, I, too, was changed by those events I witnessed. I knew with absolute certainty what I wanted to do with my life. My vision was focused. Further on, that focused attitude became secondary to something more important: my parentsââ¬â¢ faith in my abilities. That faith provided me with the unwavering support I needed to make my way in the male world of medicine. Thus, equipped with the inspiration and knowledge, sincere passion for the field, a diligent work ethic and a good nature team attitude I seek a residency program that will provide a solid teaching foundation and a broad clinical experience in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. I want to work with people who are also passionate about their work. Most importantly, I want a program that fosters a team atmosphere where faculty and residents work together for the patients welfare. I am committed to working sincerely in my residency training and am pledged to devote all my energies towards this end.

What You Need to Know About Googles Mobile Algorithm Update
Googleââ¬â¢s much-publicized #Mobilegeddon or #Mobilepocalypse algorithm update caused a big stir in the digital marketing world when it was first released in April 2015. The aim was to improve the browsing and search experience for the increasing numbers of mobile users who had, by that point, surpassed desktop users when it came to ecommerce searches. The change resulted in mobile-friendly pages receiving a boost in search rankings done by mobile users but it only applied to individual pages rather than entire websites. This past March, Google announced that it would be doubling-down on its efforts to ââ¬Å"make the web more mobile friendly.â⬠The now fully implemented algorithm change will now be boosting the search rankings of mobile-friendly websites across all devices. Furthermore, entire websites will now be evaluated, page-by-page. So this means that sites that are still not optimized for mobile use will be penalized with a lower search rank. Recap of the key differences between the 2015 and 2016 updates 2015 Update Some websites saw a change in mobile traffic Search result changes applied to mobile users only Individual pages were evaluated on mobile-friendliness 2016 Update Websites may see a change in traffic from all devices Search result changes will apply to users of all devices Entire websites will be evaluated on mobile-friendliness What to do Test your website If youââ¬â¢ve already made your website mobile-friendly, youââ¬â¢re probably fine. But if your website requires mobile users to zoom in and out in order to read content, your site is not mobile-friendly. Google has a page that will test websites for mobile-friendliness. If you donââ¬â¢t pass, look into getting a mobile-friendly website as soon as possible. Update to a mobile site If youââ¬â¢re not using content management systems for your website, you may need to hire a developer to build a mobile version for your website. Google recommends opting for a responsive web design rather than a separate mobile website. Additionally, a responsive design will allow for your URLs and HTML to remain the same. Ensure the content itself is mobile-friendly Having a mobile-friendly user interface is the first step. It is also important to have mobile-friendly content. Common mobile mistakes that some websites make include: Unplayable content: Flash objects and some embedded video sources are not supported on all devices. Interstitials and pop-ups: Interstitials are pages that are displayed before or after the expected content page. This can include advertisements and age confirmations pages. Proceeding past these pages can be difficult for mobile users. The same can be applied to pop-ups. Broken links and redirects: If your mobile site utilizes separate mobile URLs, be sure to test your links to ensure they all work when browsing in mobile. Slow loading pages: Slow loading pages can be frustrating to users and can cut into their monthly data usage. Mobile is here to stay Mobile traffic will continue to grow. Add to this Googleââ¬â¢s algorithm updates and itââ¬â¢s clear that all websites need to be optimized for mobile to be successful. But remember that even when youââ¬â¢ve made all the necessary changes for this update, you canââ¬â¢t let up. You have to keep creating excellent content to continue to attract customers and maintain or improve your search ranking.

heavy metal and gender essays
heavy metal and gender essays Year/Major: 3rd Year. Film, TV, and Media Studies. Question: Choose one popular music genre and analyze with respect to race, gender OR class. Analysis Of Heavy Metal With Respect To Gender. Heavy Metal music usually include impressive technical feats on the electric guitar, counter posed with an experience of power and control that is built up through vocal, guitar power chords, distortion, and sheer volume of drums. Also Visually, metal musicians typically appear as males, leaping about the stage, leather clothing punctuating their performances with phallic thrusts of guitars and microphone stands. Heavy metal is, a discourse shaped by patriarchy. Circulating in context of Western society, for much of its history metal has been appreciated and supported primarily by a male teenage audience. This is a group lacking in social, physical, and economical power but besieged by cultural messages promoting such forms of power, insisting on them as masculinity. The purpose of a genre is to reproduce a particular ideology, and the aim of heavy metal until mid 1980s was for young white male performers and fans to hear and believe in certain stories about the nature of masculinity. However these representations can never be definitive and they are always open to transformation and changing figures. Since social circumstances may change so that particular forms of culture are no longer related to an individual. For example metal fans as they get older may gain some amount of economical power, or they may find children who replace them at the bottom of social or physical power. Also we have seen a great increase in number female fans, since around 1987, concert audiences for metal shows have been roughly gender balanced . In my discussion I will try to explain why metal has been dominated by male musicians and fans, also why there was a big increase in the number of female fans. I will be framing heavy metal songs and videos in terms ...

Disc Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 1
Disc - Essay Example 1 book (246), there is a gender bias that exists in virtually every aspect of science instruction This results in the under-representation of women in related industries, including education, which only serves to further the problem. Methods to overcome this issue must therefore be focused on removing the bias from the classroom, rather than attempting to eliminate a non-existent weakness among females. This is no easy task, as inequality has permeated practically all fields of science and math, requiring the evaluation of everything from the delivery of education to the validity of the information that is presented. Removing the gender bias in classroom science can (and should) be addressed in many ways. Including a feminist pedagogy to the instruction approach will help to identify problem areas that need to be altered, while ensuring equal considerations to famous females in the field provides a tactical approach. These methods should help all students by setting the example that they do not need to fit a particular stereotype in order to succeed in science and
